Komphela’s memorial service open to public

The memorial service of the late, former Free State MEC Butana Komphela will be open for the public to attend on Thursday, under strict Covid-19 protocols.

This is according to the spokesperson of the Free State Premier, Sello Pieterson. He says that only 400 people will be allowed into the venue, whilst the memorial service will be streamed live on the Free State Provincial Government’s social media platforms. Pieterson says the memorial service will be held at the City Hall in Bloemfontein, from 12:00 until 14:00 on Thursday 27 January. He also adds that the memorial service of the late Komphela will be attended by the Premier of the Free State, Sisi Ntombela, MECs, mayor, as well as senior government officials who have served under his leadership.

Komphela served in various capacities and spheres of the Free State government, which include MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, Social Development, as well as Health.

He passed away on Monday afternoon after a short illness.
