Knights bowling depth put to the test

The VKB Knights’ bowling depth will be put to the test this weekend when they face the Highveld Lions in the Sunfoil Series.
Seamer Duanne Olivier who took 8 for 81 during their 5 wicket victory over the Titans last week has been ruled out with a broken thumb.

On top of the latest injury blow, the side will also have to make do without seamers Dillon du Preez, Corné Dry, Quinton Friend and Shadley van Schalkwyk.

Caretaker coach, Allan Donald, confirmed that the Malusi Siboto has recovered from his niggle and will play. The side will also see left-arm medium pacer Jandré Coetzee making a return.

Coetzee has 314 wickets in 81 first-class games to his name at an average of 19.66.

Donald told Courant that Coetzee is a more than capable replacement for the unavailable seamers.

“His got subtle variations, he swings it both ways, he’s got a fairly slippery bouncer and he is but great paced, but he understands his game.

“I also think that playing in Kimberley for a long time, he’s an experienced campaigner and will low don’t bring that to the inexperienced guys in our side from a bowling point of view.

“It’s nice to have him back, but that’s where we’ve been taken. To pick from outside our squad is tough for use, but as I say a nice opportunity for other to show what they’ve got.”

On the batting front, Proteas batsman Rilee Rossouw has once again been released from the national test squad to face England, and will look to follow on a knock of 97 against the Titans.

The four-day match at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley starts at 10 o’clock Thursday morning.
