King Davis, a member of the well-known Afro-Pop group, Kaya a Motheo was born and bred in Bloemfontein.
Davis, a second-year drop-out while studying towards a Business Management qualification at Motheo TVET College, took quite a detour when it comes to pursuing his music career. After leaving Motheo, he started a job at Madume Consultants in 2001, where he worked as an events manager and arranged and coordinated corporate and government functions.
In 2003, things started to happen for him. He not only became the co-owner a music label called Entice Music Productions, but a year later he co-produced Seipati “Twasa” Seoke from Lesedi FM on her debut album. Also in 2004, he was appointed as a project manager for his church choir who recorded a CD.
“The next year I led Kaya to be nominated for two Metro FM Music Awards – Best Afro-Pop and Best Newcomers, which we won. As a group we also received a recognition award from the Free State Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation in 2006.
“I have just released a tribute album called Oliver Tambo, which is currently enjoying airplay on numerous radio stations such as Metro FM. Keep an eye out for my full Afro-soul album called I write what I like to be released soon,” said Davis.
He is also back in school, studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurship at Mancosa.
