Kimberley sergeant shoots himself at workplace

Police in Kimberley have opened an inquest case after a police officer allegedly shot himself at the Kimberley Police Station in the late afternoon on Friday.

It is alleged that the man, believed to be 42-years-old and whose name is known to Courant, allegedly shot himself while his colleagues were not around him.

According to police spokesperson, Dimakatso Mooi, circumstances surrounding the incident are still unknown.

“The shooting incident happened at about plus, minus 16:45. Right now everybody is in shock because remember it happened in the workplace so everybody is in a shocked state. The investigations are continuing and an inquest has been opened in the Kimberley Police Station,” she says.
