Joburg Ballet is returning to Bloemfontein with Coppélia, one of the best loved ballets in the world. As part of a drive to actively include the community and grow audiences, Joburg Ballet will hold auditions for the Bloemfontein season of Joburg Ballet’s endearing, heart-warming production, Coppélia, on Saturday 18 January from 10am to 1pm at Sand du Plessis Theatre.
This initiative hopes to inspire the youth and allow young dancers the chance to be part of the production process of a full-length professional ballet. This gives young artists the opportunity to develop professionally making ballet, arts and culture more relevant to the community. Through this engagement with communities and audiences, Joburg Ballet aims to expose our development to the greatest possible cross-section of South Africans.
Members of the media are invited to observe the auditions on Saturday 18 January from 10am and to experience this behind-the-scenes look into the making of magic. Attending the audition will be Joburg Ballet CEO Dirk Badenhorst, Artistic Director Iain MacDonald, ballet mistress Lauren Dixon Seager and PR manager Lindsay Mc Donald. Joburg Ballet would like to connect with the media to share this development and will allow members of the media the opportunity to interact with the Joburg Ballet team.
Romance, jealousy, intrigue and a huge dollop of comedy make Coppélia one of the best loved ballets in the world, the story of an old toymaker who believes he’s breathed life into his beautiful mechanical doll. Brimming with famous melodies and spectacular classical ballet, Joburg Ballet lights up your life with the company’s endearing, heart-warming production. 25 – 29 March 2014 at Sand du Plessis Theatre.
