The Hawks’ investigation into the death of Democratic Alliance councillor, Monica Deniacos and her husband, Basil, continues. This comes after the bodies of the deceased were discovered in the early morning by their helper.
According to Hawks’ spokesperson, Lynda Steyn, the investigation is currently at a sensitive stage. The case has been under the directorate for priority crime since the gruesome scene was discovered. “We know that their vehicle was stolen but at this moment the investigation is at a sensitive phase,” said Steyn.
So far there have been no arrests in the case as suspects are still at large. “There have been people that were just taken in for questioning but they were never charged,” she added.
Deniacos was a well-known businesswoman in the area and was the DA councillor of Ward 2 which is made up of Dealesville, Hertzogville and Boshof. The party’s Caucus Leader, Roy Jankielsohn, expressed that a Free State Community Policing Bill would be submitted to Legislature to combat such incidences.
“The DA is committed to making positive contributions to the fight against crime. The impact of crime in rural and urban areas is catastrophic because besides the trauma it causes to communities, it contributes to poor social cohesion,” he said.
