Investigation update into Bfn mental hospital expected

The Free State Health Department will shed light on the outcomes of its investigation into maladministration allegations against the management of the province’s biggest state mental facility soon.

In May, Department head, David Motau, placed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as well as the Heads of Nursing and Supply Chain Management at the Free State Psychiatric Complex in Bloemfontein on a precautionary suspension, pending an investigation into angry staff members’ claims that patient care at the facility is being compromised allegedly due to bad management practices.

The staff previously argued that “things like the quality of food, the security of patients and nursing staff, the provision of decent clothing and poor hygienic conditions” are compromising patients’ lives. Spokesperson Mondli Mvambi is expected to provide the latest on the matter soon.
