Interstate Bus Lines (IBL) is offering a reward for the arrest and successful prosecution of the perpetrators who were involved in the burning of one of the busline’s buses.
The incident took place last night at around 20:00 at Botsabelo T Section when bus 4064 was torched. According to IBL spokesperson, Vuyo Ondala, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. “Such acts of criminality have an adverse impact on IBL service delivery, which is something a number of our passengers’ livelihood depends. We strongly condemn the irresponsible act that endangered property and innocent lives of our community,” said Ondala.
Ondala said the road that the bus was travelling on was barricaded by rocks, which forced the driver to stop to remove the rocks. A group of men approached the bus and set it alight.
IBL has since offered a R200 000 reward to any person who can provide them or the police with information leading to the successful conviction of the perpetrators. ILB has, in response to the attack, activated all their cameras of their fleet to assist local authorities with the case.
Members of the public with information on the burning of bus 4064 are urged to contact local law enforcement authorities or to contact the head of the Interim Investigation team on 071 683 5044.
