World renowned pianist, Mariangela Vacatello, will be gracing local music lovers with her her talented fingers on the black and white keys.
Vacatello, whose performances have been described as ‘of a superb zest, brio and imaginative scope’, will be performing a recital at the Odeion at the University of the Free State on 8 February 2019 at 19:30.
Born in Naples, Italy, Vacatello is an Italian classical professional pianist who is recognised worldwide as an exceptionally gifted artist, reflected in the numerous awards and effusive reviews she received. She first took the world by storm when she won the second prize at the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in 1999, at the age of 17, which catapulted her towards an international career as a soloist, performing at Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Walt Disney Hall, Montpellier Festival, Weill Hall in New York City and the Oriental Centre in Shanghai.
She boasts numerous top accolades, including the Solti Foundation Award, XVII Venice Prize, Finalist and Worldwide Audience Award at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, 1st Prize Top of the World International Piano Competition 2009 and the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in 2005.
With a programme including Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827): Piano Sonata Op. 13 Pathetique; György Ligeti (1923 – 2006): Musica Ricercata and Franz Liszt (1811 – 1886): Sonata in B minor; the evening promises to be a magical experience.
