According to Karen Botha of Families South Africa (Famsa) in Bloemfontein, it is crucial for family members to look after one another, as it’s one of the aspects that can be easily neglected.
Her statement comes as the world commemorates International Family Day on Sunday. Botha says people should always remember that families are very important.
“There is always enough time to do a lot of other things and no time is spared for quality time, in many cases especially when it comes to family life. We are working with various families at Famsa and therefore families are the most important entity in the community. For this year’s International Family Day, we will hold several celebrations, specifically at schools, where we will involve parents and children and inform them about the importance of family life and that we need each other.”
Botha says they will also hold discussions on the difference between discipline and abuse. The theme for this year’s International Family Day is ‘Families, healthy lives and sustainable future’.
