Inquest after drowning at Speaker’s home

An inquest will be held into the drowning of the two grand-children of the Speaker of the Free State Provincial Legislature Mamiki Qabathe’s home on New Year’s eve.

Free State police spokesman, Sam Makhele, says what normally follows after such an incident in that the police would open an inquest into the matter.

The children drowned in a small children’s swimming pool at the Speaker’s home in Virginia on Saturday.

Various people, colleagues such as the leader of the opposition in the Free State Legislature, Roy Jankielsohn, have expressed condolences with the family over the past few days.
