Two people sustained minor injuries during a multi vehicle pile-up in Nelson Mandela Drive this morning.

Mediclinic Bloemfontein spokesperson, Amanda Appelgryn, says a 20 year old pregnant woman and a 31 year old man were taken to the hospital but were later discharged.

It is believed that a truck’s brakes had failed and five cars were badly damaged in the pile-up.

According to one of the drivers of one of the vehicles on the scene, she was lucky to escape without injuries, apart from her car having to be towed away.

Heavy downpours made the situation worse, as well as traffic coming from the N1, which formed a long queue along Nelson Mandela Drive.

Authorities cleared the scene soon after the accident.
