Bloemwater suggested the removal of people residing at Dinaweng informal settlements near the N6 route outside Mangaung.
It was reported that some Dinaweng residents are living on top of Bloemwater pipes that are ageing and refuse to move. This was discussed during a council meeting at the Bram Fischer Building in Bloemfontein this week. Bloemwater explained that it was dangerous for people to reside in that area.
It further explained that water at those designated pipes runs by 1200 per second and if a pipe can burst, the settlement will be flooded within five minutes. The speaker of Mangaung municipality, Mxolisi Siyonzana and Mayor Thabo Manyoni added that it should be sorted that those residences be moved as the area is not formalised.
It was mentioned during council meeting that that before any settlements get formalised the municipality together with Bloemwater should firstly discuss various matters to avoid such situations.
Meanwhile, vandalism and theft of boreholes in Thaba Nchu has been reported to be a serious problem, there are currently twenty-five boreholes in which seven boreholes are not operational due to drought and low water levels. There are only eighteen boreholes that are operational.
