Some of the illegal dumping sites in Mangaung will be transformed into parks.
Mangaung Metropolitan Mayor Thabo Manyoni says they are removing illegal dumps, alien plants and cutting trees and grass in some areas to create a clean living space. Manyoni was speaking at Batho Location in Bloemfontein this morning.
He says the after effects of illegal dumping are rodents and sicknesses. Manyoni says illegal dumping will not be tolerated and residents should report the culprits.
“I’m here to tell all citizens of Mangaung Metro that cleanliness is equal to godliness. They must keep their areas clean if they want to have healthy lifestyles. In order for it to be sustainable it is proper to call all community members and to make sure that they also don’t allow people and dump at their own areas,” he says.
Manyoni says partnership between residents and the metro is essential to keep the municipality clean. He says communities should start using refuse bags. Manyoni planted trees at a few sites with city officials and councillors.
