Illegal abortion suspects released

SABRINA DEAN – The case against two foreign nationals accused of operating an illegal abortion clinic in Bloemfontein has been dropped.

Police spokesperson Wendy Nkabi says prosecution could not go ahead under the Abortion and Sterilization Act due to lack of a suitable witness.

The two men, aged 28 and 23, were arrested on Tuesday after a tip-off. The men had allegedly been offering illegal abortion services at several different venues, including a hair salon in the Bloemfontein CBD.
