Bloemfontein – The South African Football Association has announced that they will not renew Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund’s contract.
SAFA president Danny Jordaan confirmed the news in Johannesburg last night after a lengthy meeting.
Igesund and Bafana returned on Saturday afternoon from Australasia, where the 57-year-old oversaw his final two games in charge.
South Africa drew 1-1 against to Australia and played to a goalless stalemate against New Zealand in Auckland on Friday.
Igesund will remain at the helm until his contract expires at the end of August.
Reports suggest Igesund would be replaced by former Bafana coach, Carlos Queiroz, who is currently in charge of the Iranian team taking part in the World Cup in Brazil.
Other names suggested for the role are Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi and current South African under-20 and under-23 coach Shakes Mashaba.
