The I Am Young project in Bloemfontein has started preparing for the much anticipated Moments concert, the brainchild of Willie Venter, which will be taking place on 23 November 2019 at the Odeion Theatre on the main campus of the University of the Free State.
Venter said Moments is a brilliant platform for talented young performers and this year it will be introducing local star, Cézanne Yzelle, and the charming singer, Tobi Jooste, two talented young artists who will be joining the more seasoned artists such as Jannie Moolman, Jennifer Jones, On-Que, Take Note, Bliss and many more.
According to Venter, the I Am Young project gives young artists the chance to share the stage with professional artists and also gives them the opportunity to create their own voice and art while still at school. He further said that through the I Am Young project they want to create a confidence within young singers and help them take it further as a career.
Bloemfontein Courant spoke to some of the students in the I Am Young group and here is what they had to say: Jaano de Bruin explained that he decided to be part of the I Am Young project because he knows that anything Willie Venter starts he always makes a success of.
He added the platform gives him a chance to celebrate music with other artists. Another student, Ayabulela Nkwakwa, said that she has been working with Venter for the past seven years. “He is such a professional and knows how to work with children.” Karabo Phutsisi said that he decided to join the project because it gives him the platform to perform, which is something that he enjoys. One of his favourite things about coming to rehearsal is the song choices.
Venter said there is still space for any young child who would like to join this group and although it is important to know that before one can be in the group they need to go through the audition, anyone between the age of 12 and 17 can join. They can phone Willie Venter on 083-765-9227 to arrange for an audition.
