Human skeleton found, police requests public assistance

A human skeleton of an unknown man was discovered lying next to an unused quarry about five kilometers just on the outskirts of Bloemfontein in Christo Groenewalt Road.

Police are requesting the public to assist in locating the family of the deceased.

Police spokesperson Chaka Marope says the gruesome discovery was made on Monday morning. “The remains were found by a construction worker who went to the site to dump rubbish. The skeleton was still dressed in black trouser and a grey shirt. The remains are estimated to be of a man in his late thirties,” he says.

According to the police preliminary investigation on the scene, the man is suspected to have died six months ago.

Marope mentions that further investigation will be conducted to determine the identity of the deceased through DNA tests as well as to determine the cause of death.

A case of inquest has been registered for a further investigation.

The Bayswater police request anyone with information or any family that has reported a missing person within the past six months and has no success can contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant  Tumelo Itholeng at 082 301 6171 or  074 0216329.
