Hou to represent Africa in Miss Plus Size World

Dipolelo Hou was crowned as Miss Plus Size World in Atlanta last year.

Botshabelo-based beauty queen, Dipolelo Hou, will soon compete with 17 other delegates from around the world for the coveted Miss Plus Size Universe crown.

This annual pageant, which is produced and hosted by franchise owner Pearl Williams, will be held on 20 April 2019 at the Sunset Shores Beach Hotel in St Vincent and the Grenadines. St Vincent and the Grenadines is a southern Caribbean island state comprising a main island, St Vincent, and a chain of smaller islands.

The Miss Plus Size Universe objectives are to extend the opportunities for Plus Size women, to exhibit their ability to foster and honour the importance of self-value, to promote women enhancement and empowerment, to embrace their size with confidence and pride, to offer support in becoming the voice of change in their community by addressing social issues on various platforms.

South Africa has made history by sending the first representatives to the Miss Plus World and Ms Plus Intercontinental pageants in Atlanta, Georgia last year.

Chief Leeuw, national director of the Miss Plus Size Pageant, said he is happy to once again send Dipolelo Hou to compete against delegates from 17 other countries such as Switzerland, Brazil and Spain. “We are happy to announce that Dipolelo will be the only lady representing the continent of Africa.”

Hou said her journey started 20 years ago and the dream is finally yielding fruits. “I give all honour and glory to God, for what is impossible with man, is possible with God. Growing up in the dusty streets of Botshabelo I was involved in a lot of beauty pageants. The highlight for me was winning Miss Botshabelo in 1999. Seventeen years later I had the opportunity to enter Miss Plus Size World in Atlanta in July last year and I came back home as the winner,” she concluded. – Lebakeng Nkabi
