Home Affairs Online ID check now offline

The online feature on the official Home Affairs website used to verify identification details and or marital status are now offline.

This follows after the department suspended the service since March this year.

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba said the department had to suspend the online service due to abuse.

He said the system was used for ID number phishing and some financial and insurance organisations used it to verifying ID and status of potential clients without consent.

Gigaba said all these actions were in violation of the current legislation and clogging of the website.

An alternative SMS-service can however be used in the meantime.
