If your child is an aspiring hockey player looking for a fun, interactive day with local hockey heroes then this is the hockey clinic for you. Hosted by Bloem’s Melrick Maddocks, the one-day clinic will provide a good opportunity for kids to sharpen up on some technical skills.

The SA Men’s Hockey player and hockey coach remembers how he used to always look up to professional players when growing up. Having the opportunity to give younger players a chance to see what national players are doing leaves him speechless. “I lack the vocabulary to express how much this means. I used to be the curious child and the one making the necessary sacrifices to one day live out my dream of playing in Europe and representing the national team, and now that I have accomplished those dreams I now use the network I have access to, to give kids access to what I wish I had access to,” he explained.

According to the 28-year-old, the sport is doing well in Bloemfontein as the schools are competitive, skillful, and talented. “We hope that this would serve as a beacon of hope and inspire our kids to keep playing the game, work hard and that more opportunities like these would come about in our region.” He added that the clinic will also be a platform that will boost the morale of those who have unfortunately not been selected for their provincial teams. He hopes that the players will learn something that they can apply and practise at home.

Maddocks currently plays for Gladbacher Hockey und Tennis Club in Germany. Dayaan and Mustapha Cassiem, Tevin Kok, Charne Maddocks, and Devan van Niekerk will be coaching on the day. The clinic takes place on 1 July and will be divided into two coaching sessions.

A fee of R500 is payable for children between the ages of 13 to 19 years. To make a booking, parents can send an email to or send a text on Whatsapp to 081-503-9446.

Schools are allowed to make group bookings if they would like to enter some school teams.
