Hive of activity as 2015 school year gets underway


Schools in the Free State and North West provinces were a hive of activity this morning as the 2015 school year got underway.

Courant‘s journalists were stationed at various schools chatting to learners and parents about their experiences.

Anthony Oor, who is starting Grade one at Brebner Primary School in Bloemfontein, says he’s excited at the prospect.

Senior Free State department officials will visit more than 135 schools starting today to establish the overall readiness for the 2015 school year. Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe will visit a school in Zamdela in Sasolburg.

In North West, Premier Supra Mahumapelo will visit Nkukise Primary School in Tlhabane, Rustenburg while education MEC Wendy Matsemela will visit schools in Taung.

Schools in North West, the Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga open for the first quarter today while schools in Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Eastern Cape re-open on January 21.
