A case of culpable homicide was opened following a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident involving Mohlophehi “Champion” Mokoena (31), a popular radio presenter at Motheo FM, and Tshepo Tsebe (35).
According to Free State spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, the police were called to the accident scene at about 02:30 and on arrival found the lifeless bodies of two men lying near a motor vehicle.
“The third person, a female, informed the police that the three of them were driving from Botshabelo when their vehicle got a flat tyre. The two males got off the vehicle to change the flat tyre,” Covane said. The female alleged that she was woken up by the noise caused by the collision.
According to Covane, two unknown men appeared on the scene and from the direction where a white BMW had stopped. According to the witness, the unknown males were able to identify who the victims were. They then turned back to their motor vehicle and drove off without reporting the accident.
All role players were summoned to process the scene. A preliminary investigation led the police to the address in Mandela View but neither the driver nor the White BMW were found although it was confirmed that the owner resides at the place.
