Heidedal parents furious after school refuse their children

A group of furious parents are gathered at the  Dr Block Secondary School in Heidedal and refuse the leave as the school informed them there is no space for their children at the school. A disgruntled Elizabeth Buffel says she and about 50 other parents urgently want answers from the headmaster or Department of Education as she already registered her daughter for gr.8 last year. After she registered her child the school said she should return in January, however, when she arrived at the school today she was turned away.

“I have been running up and down since Monday”. She says the school’s response is that the names of learners who couldn’t be accommodated will be put on a waiting list. This after Buffel already registered her daughter last year. According to her the schools reason for putting the names of the learners who did not gain entry is that classes will only be conducted in English and Sotho.)

Buffel’s other daughter in gr. 11 is already enrolled at the school. The headmaster could not be reached for comment.
