The current holder of the Heidedaller of the Year crown, Adv. Ruwaidah Henney, has received yet another feather in her cap.
Henney, who is the Managing Director of Zen Consulting as well as the chairperson of the Pink Project, has just been appointed magistrate from 1 May 2018.
In an exclusive interview with Voice, Henney said although it came as a huge surprise, she is very excited about what the future holds for her as magistrate.
“I am very fortunate to have received this opportunity. Although it all happened at a very fast pace, it is God’s work indeed. I will be working in different courts. It’s all a learning experience and I know that it will be hard work, but I never back away from a challenge.
“I love challenges and though I’ve been in this for a long time, one can never learn too much. I am excited to learn new things from my superiors. That’s the most important factor for me. I am both nervous and excited at the same time,” said Henney.
According to Henney, her new job will entail interpreting the law correctly and applying it in a proper manner to come to an accurate decision. Impartiality is crucial.
“I will not able to defend clients anymore. Being a presiding officer entails impartiality and discipline. I will therefore no longer act in my capacity as legal advisor. I think I will miss my clients the most. They have formed such an integral part of my growth in business and in my career.
“As far as my companies are concerned, I have handed them over to new directors. I have full trust in them to run the companies in the manner I did. I will continue with my community projects to further our community’s interests in my personal capacity,” said Henney.
