The Horizon Health Awareness Campaign recently held a provincial health awareness conference, which was targeted at high school learners from Motheo, Thabo Mofutsanyane and the Xhariep district.

The aim of the conference, which was held at the Barolong Hall in Thaba Nchu, was to select the best learners to represent South Africa at the International Horizon Health Awareness Conference in Russia next month.

On the day learners from different high schools wrote a selection test, and Relebogile Tlhabanelo from Phetogane High School in Thaba Nchu and Mothebe Haleokwe from Sehlabeng High School came out tops out of all learners who had participated.

A team of four learners from Thaba Nchu, Ladybrand and Botshabelo will be jetting off to Moscow for the conference in September. Masego Pietrus, secretary of Horizon Health Awareness Campaign, told Bloemfontein Courant that the learners had to write a selection test based on scientific research. “This is a great opportunity for a child to go out and learn.

I hope this international conference will be a motivation to them to do well in their school work because education is the key to fight poverty.”
