Hawks zoom in on Twin City robbery

Police have confirmed to Bloemfontein Courant that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) will take over the investigation into the daring robbery that occurred at Roots Butchery in Twin City Mall in Heidedal this morning.
According to police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, three armed robbers fled the scene in a white Ford Fiesta with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects are still at large.
“On Sunday 1 March 2020 about 08:00 a G4S security officer was collecting cash at Roots Butchery in Twin City Mall, Heidedal after which he was confronted by an unknown male armed with a firearm.
“A shot was fired at the security officer and it hit him on the thigh. The bullet exited and went on to hit a passerby. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money from the security officer and ran to a white Ford Fiesta that was waiting at the parking lot, and the suspects drove off,” said Mbambo.
The injured were referred to a local hospital for treatment. Mbambo added that the preliminary investigation indicates that there were three suspects involved.
