The Police’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation cracked down on corruption at the Maseru Border post, between South Africa and Lesotho this morning, with the arrest of 11 Officials from the Department of Home Affairs.
A further 10 arrests are expected to happen, as some of the suspects were not at work today, while five civilians who are also involved in the alleged crimes at the post, were arrested yesterday.
They arrested the officials for allegedly accepting bribes amounting to thousands of rands, for illegally issuing visas to Lesotho citizens who exceeded their allowed time in South Africa.
Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba was present during the raid, and he warned against any officials hoping to make money by abusing their positions.
