Harmony High crowned provincial champs

LEE KHOTLELE

Bloemfontein – Harmony High of Virginia were crowned the provincial champions of the 2014 Sanlam Kay Motsepe  schools tournament after beating Tlokola Secondary School 1-0 in the provincial finals held at Grey College over the weekend.

The school played host to the Free State Provincial finals in which six regional winners locked horns, fighting for a place in the national tournament to take place later this year.

Harmony (Lejweleputswa) and Tlokola (Thabo Mofutsanyane) were joined by the Motheo district duo of Metsimaphodi Secondary School (Dewetsdorp) and RT Mokgopa High School (Thaba ‘Nchu), Relebohile Sibulele Secondary School (Xhariep) and Thabang Secondary School (Fezile Dabi) in the play-offs.

Harmony High, the most successful school in the history of the tournament, walked away with the trophy and a R100 000 cash prize that goes with it. However, Tlokola’s road did not end, as the school is set to join Harmony in the national tournament, which will take place at Giant stadium in Pretoria from 5-9 October, 2014.

The national tournament will consist of 18 teams, two per province.
