Happy Valley set for SA XCO

The final leg of the 2021 South African XCO Cup mountain bike series will be taking place at Happy Valley in Bloemfontein over the weekend.

The course at the conservancy in the heart of Bloemfontein is one of the top courses in the country and will test the riders’ technical ability to the max.
The event in the City of Roses is certified as UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) category two event and forms part of the UCI Junior World Series.

For the local riders it will also double as the Free State XCO Championships for 2021.
Over the past weekend another leg of the Free Sate XCO Series was held at Happy Valley.

The updated log sees Daniel Kotze leading the men’s elite section with 570 points, while Neil Macleod leads the junior men’s with 600 points. Fourie Burger is in the lead in the youth men section with 520 points, while Carla Kotze is on her own in the youth women section with 600 points. Jean-Jacques Koekemoer leads the standings in the sub junior boys with 600 points, while Ilandrie du Plessis is also on her own in the sub junior girls with 600 points. The sprog boys is led by Janro du Plessis with 550 points, and Inge van Heerden is on 600 points in the sprog girls. Lehan Oosthuizen leads the nipper boys with 520 points. Gerrit Moelich leads the sup vet men, while Brent Green and Elizabeth Theron lead the veteran men and women respectively.

This week the course will be opened for practise runs on Friday from 10:00 to 16:00. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no spectators will be permitted and the organisers will be very strict on this. – MORGAN PIEK
