Handbags filled with upliftment and hope

Restor-A-Life is an organisation with the goal of assisting the unemployed and undervalued with food, shelter, and skills development, basically restoring purpose to those in the community.

After spending Mandela Day 2023 at Restor-ALife’s home of hope, Mimosa Mall and the organisation developed a mutual desire to work on a project together and that is where the idea of Handbags of Hope was introduced and pitched.

The handbags of hope collects pre-loved handbags that are filled with items to bring hope, love as well as spoil the fortunate lady who receives the handbag and uplift a woman in need. The items may include makeup, sanitary items, wet wipes, journals, pens as well as hygiene products.

Women can participate by donating pre-loved handbags with goodies and an inspiring note, they may donate a pre-loved handbag only or only donate some goodies to fill up a donated pre-loved handbag.

Maresa van der Walt from RestorA-Life mentioned that the handbags of hope’s collection point will be at Mimosa Mall’s information desk.

“Women residing in the Restor-a-Life Home of Hope, as well as women in need from different Restor-a-Life upliftment partners, will be receiving the handbags. We also hope to have enough to even spoil some groundlevel employees at medical institutions,” Van der Walt mentioned.

The big “packing event” will take place on 31 Aug. If you would like to donate but is unable to drop off at Mimosa Mall, you can also drop off your handbag of hope at AGS Siloam, 34 Westphall Street in Universitas, or contact Van der Walt at 072-383-7522.
