Grey wins home tournament for the first time

The first soccer team of Grey College were crowned the Nedbank Grey College Soccer Tournament champions for the first time on Tuesday after beating HTS Louis Botha in an all-Bloemfontein final.

Louis Botha opened the scoring in less than five minutes, however, Grey, found the back of the net just moments later to level matters. The score remained deadlocked at one goal apiece for the remainder, forcing the game into a penalty shootout.

The Grey goalkeeper, Lesedi Mokwena, saved two of the Louis Botha penalty attempts to lead his team to a 4-3 victory in the shootout.

A total of 24 teams from across the country participated in the prestigious tournament, which was contested at the Windmill Park at Grey College. – MORGAN PIEK
