The opening of Grey College’s brand new Science Centre took place on 21 April 2016. Three auditoriums and six offices have been built, while four classrooms have been upgraded.
The science labs are fully equipped with the latest technology, as well as emergency showers. Each lab has enough space for learners to work at their own workstation and do experiments.
The style of the buildings are modern and differ from the sandstone buildings which Grey College is known for. The silver cladding and windows give the buildings a unique look and feel from the inside as well as the outside.
Grey College focuses mainly on academics, therefore the idea is to build more highly equipped science labs, as well as make the environment more user friendly for staff and learners.
The three science labs can accommodate 160 learners in total. The first two classes can accommodate 60 each and the third lab can accommodate 40 learners. The other four upgraded classes are used as technology classes and can accommodate 35 learners each.
Mrs BS Tshabalala, Deputy Chief Director of Free State Department of Education, attended the event on behalf of Tate Makgoe, MEC: FS Department of Education.
