The prefects from Grey College Secondary School spent their last day of the holiday at the Boitshepo Day Care Centre in Bloemside, Bloemfontein.
The prefects, in conjunction with the "I am a Star" project, gave out sandwiches, scarves, beanies, and gloves to the children from Boitshepo Day Care Centre, and to children and adults living in the surrounding area. The Grey boys, along with members of the community, donated bread, butter, and various spreads to make the sandwiches. One of the prefects said that giving to the less fortunate made him realise again how much we have and that, at a school such as Grey College, "we are blessed with more than we deserve."
Coordinator of the "I am a Star" project, Marlene Jooste, was surprised by the response that she got from the community to help, and encouraged more schools to get involved in charity projects such as the "Sandwich Drive" (the name given to the project by the contibutors). She also said " The Grey boys are not just gentlemen, but are also caring youngsters that will leave a massive legacy."
