Granny conned out of R90 000

Duane Petrus – Thabong police in Welkom are looking for four alleged fraudsters who recently conned a 74-year-old woman out of more than R90 000. The victim was made to believe that she was smeared with muthi that would cause her to lose all her money if she did not hand it over to them in order to secure it from disappearing. Two men, posing as police officials, accompanied the woman to her house and the bank to withdraw all her money. She was promised that the money would be held in a safe at the police station for her to collect the following day. Police spokesperson, Malebo Khosana, says a similar case was reported in Soweto in June, where an elderly woman lost R100 000.
