As part of a national concert tour SA pianist Petronel Malan will enthral Bloemfontein audiences this July with a recital in the Odeion Concert Hall of the University of the Free State.
Having last performed in the city of roses during 2005 Petronel is excited to return to one of her favourite concert venues in South Africa. Petronel was scheduled to perform in Bloemfontein during 2011, but had to cancel her entire concert tour to South Africa due to being diagnosed with rheumatic fever – an illness that first afflicted her as a child. She has however made a complete recovery and apart from maintaining a busy performance schedule abroad she has also completed one recording project as well as started researching new repertoire for a further instalment of her “Transfigured” recording series.
“Formidable…dizzying…magical.” These words from New York reviewer Harris Goldsmith vividly illustrate pianist Petronel Malan’s uniquely captivating style. Indeed, as a multiple Grammy nominee and gold medallist of several international piano competitions, Petronel continues to enthral audiences worldwide.
Lauded by reviewers as an unmistakably creative force in the classical music industry, Petronel’s critical acclaim culminated in the nomination of three Grammy Awards, including “Best Instrumental Solo Album” for her debut disc “Transfigured Bach.” As an exclusive recording artist for Hänssler Classic, “Transfigured Mozart” (2006) and “Transfigured Beethoven” (2008) followed to great critical acclaim. Transfigured Tchaikovsky” released in 2012 includes the world premiere recordings of Tchaikovsky’s song transcriptions by Isaac Mikhnovsky.
Petronel’s 2013 recital programme is sure to live up to expectation. Presenting works by Haydn, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky and Liszt her creative abilities and incomparable technique will satisfy the most discerning purists as well as ordinary music lovers.
The recital in Bloemfontein is presented in collaboration with “Travel with Flair” and will take place in the Odeion of the University of the Free State on Thursday 25 July 2013 @ 19:30. Tickets are available from Computicket.
