Goosen ready for Bok return

The Springbok flyhalf, Johan Goosen, is of the view that whoever wins the kicking battle will win the Rugby Championship test between South Africa and Argentina in Nelspruit on Saturday.
The player who is now plying his trade in France, makes his long awaited return to the green-and-gold and is expected to start at fullback against the Pumas.

The former Toyota Cheetahs pivot has been playing alongside the All Blacks legend, Dan Carter, at Racing Metro and he feels that learning from the Kiwi great had improved his game.

“Dan is a great guy on and off the field with a lot of experience, with more than 100 tests.

“A lot of the guys on the field, like Joe Rocokoco and Chris Masoe, those guys are legends and what they do on the field you can learn a lot from them.

“It helped me on the field to play with them and to see what it does on the field. It helped me a lot.”

While Goosen is essentially a flyhalf, he has been playing a lot of his rugby in Europe at centre and says it doesn’t matter where he will play for the Boks, it remains a massive honour.

“Wherever I play I’ll try and make the position my own.

“It’s a great bunch of guys and a great bunch of players, so I think the competition is very good with everything pushing each other, but I’ll take any position.

Allister Coetzee will be naming his team for the Test tomorrow and it is all expected that the Cheetahs lock, Lood de Jager, will start in the second row, with Pieter-Steph du Toit moving to the side of the scrum at flank.”
