Goody2Shoes is a collaborative initiative by The Panel SA and the Good Cause Foundation in Bloemfontein that was founded with the aim of addressing the need for adequate school shoes among learners in underprivileged schools within developing communities.
The 24-year-old Mthunzi Ndlela, who is the founder and chairperson of Goody2Shoes, mentioned that identifying a school is a process by itself. This is why they started collecting shoes before identifying a recipient.
After identifying multiple schools that could be assisted, Ndlela proudly confirmed that their target is to donate close to 100 pairs of school shoes to Bochabela Primary School in Bloemfontein on 12 April 2024.
“This school was chosen based on their level of need, as determined through research and outreach efforts. By targeting schools with a high number of students walking to school daily, we aim to make a meaningful impact on their lives,” explained Ndlela.
“We not only address a practical need but also boost their selfesteem and confidence, which are crucial for their educational success… especially considering that many children in South Africa walk long distances to school daily,” he expressed.
Ndlela is grateful for the support they have received since the initiative was launched, and with just a few weeks left he is hopeful that the target will be met.
“It was great to see that most people, particularly the youth, are aware of the socio-economic issues that we are faced with in South Africa and are willing to support initiatives that tackle these issues at the roots. That, for us, was beautiful beyond words,” he concluded.
