Goldfields FET students out on warning

GALOOME SHOPANE
Seven males and twenty females who are students at Goldfields FET college in Welkom have been released on warning.

The 27 were arrested yesterday for vandalising the campus in Doorn for allegedly throwing bottles and cans at the police.

Police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says the case has been postponed to October 31 for further investigation.

The college’s Phaello Zonke distanced herself and the college from the 27 saying they know of only four students whom they have laid a charge of malicious damage to property against.

“We don’t even know who were arrested, we just heard that 27 (students) have been arrested. We don’t know who were arrested and who were not arrested.

The only people that we have laid charges against are students that will be called for a disciplinary hearing at our college,” says Zonke.

Thakeng says police are still monitoring the premises. He explains that the students appeared today just to speed up things.
