The Glen College of Agriculture will be hosting the 2019 SA Agricultural Rugby Tournament as part of the 100th year celebrations of the institution. Eight agricultural colleges from various parts of the country will be taking part in the week-long tournament.

According to Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Head of Department (HOD) Janki Maseteng the college established in 1919 will hold a sporting tournament from 21 June 2019 to 28 June 2019.

“Throughout the year we will celebrate the centenary year of Glen College of Agriculture during different events. The rugby week will be beginning of the celebrations as different participants arrive today to take part,” he said.

The events will run until the end of the year and will accommodate past and future students of the agricultural institution. “Other activities will include a potato and poultry week, and open day for prospective students and an alumni conference where passed students will be gathered. The various activities will run until 10 December 2019,” said Maseteng.

The tournament will be hosted by the college for the first time in over 20 years. “The first time that Glen College of Agriculture hosted the tournament was in 1975 but the last time was in 1997. Although we have participated in tournaments that took place in other provinces there has been a big gap since we have hosted it here. It will be good to hold the tournament here again,” explained Maseteng.
