The well known athletics coach, writer and announcer, Rufus Botha, was hospitalised on Sunday after suffering from a heart attack.
The man who is a legend in his own right, writes for Bloemfontein Courant as well as Voice.
Respected by his peers, Botha, is well known for his passion, especially for the unusual and sometime less published sporting codes.
The apple doesn’t fall from the tree when it comes to Botha’s love passion for athletics and when it comes to commentating an athletics meet you would have heard his voice calling the unfolding events on the track and field full of enthusiasm and excitement.
He’s late father, Leon Botha, was also a distinguished voice in athletics.
Botha also coached the blind middle distance star, Louzanne Coetzee (middle), and her guide, Khotatso Mokone (right), before the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janerio.
“Rufus, you are in our prayers and we wish you a speedy recovery.”
Botha is currently at the Universitas Hospital in Bloemfontein and this stage is still connected to heart and breathing machines.
Doctors are trying to limit visitations at the this point in time. MORGAN PIEK
