Music lovers can expect to be dazzled and uplifted by singer and songwriter Tsimo at Moods and Flavors on Saturday night. Tsimo spoke to Bloemfontein Courant about her love for music as well as her new EP that will be released on the same night.
The 27-year-old songstress finished recording her EP in August and is looking forward to sharing it in the hopes of inspiring her audience. “The compilation of songs is a mixture of Afro Fusion, House and RnB. I have written all the songs myself and they were produced by Bathundi from the DRC. The first single was released in August but the whole EP drops on 10 November,” said Tsimo, also known as Tsimo Lekaota.
As a former student of the University of the Free State, she said, her involvement in cultural events is what spurred her on to pursue music. She did, however, started writing songs as a high schooler. “I saw that I really enjoyed singing, so we started a band when I got to the university. The band dispersed when we graduated and then I decided to continue on with music on my own.”
Tsimo grew up listening to the greats of South African music such as Caiphus Semenya and Tshepo Tsola, who have influenced her passion. “I want to make music that inspires. When people listen to my lyrics I am always singing about self-love and my own life experiences. I really want to use my music to help people to find themselves in a better space than before,” she said.
The show will begin at 19:00 at Moods and Flavors in Heidedal. Tickets cost R100 per ticket. The first ten people to arrive will get Tsimo’s EP for free. She will be performing with the live band, Nostalgia, on the night. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
