Gallery: FSSO hosts outreach programme

The Free State Symphony Ochestra held an outreach on the 17 February 2020 at St. Mary’s Primary School and Lesedi Primary School in Bochabela Township in Bloemfontein.

On the 18 February the Orchestra concluded their school outreach at the visit to Martie du Plessis School and Heide Primary School in Heidedal.

These young minds were shown a variety of string instruments, the different sounds they each produce and how they all work together to great, harmonious orchestra music. According to the University of the Free States Marketing officer for the FSSO at Odeion School of music, Tlagu Noel Molokoane, a teacher at each school was given an opportunity to lead the orchestra and experience what it felt like to be an orchestra conductor.

“Alex Fokkens, FSSO CEO and conductor illustrated how each of the string instruments sounds in comparison to rest, which included from the smallest, the violin, the viola, the cello right through to the base. We believe there were future orchestra members in the excitement the primary school children expressed in the show. We saw about 3 000 school kids over the two-day period across the four schools,” Molokoane added.
