This past weekend the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela organisation, which was founded four years ago by Carolyn Steyn, met at Oliewenhuis Art Museum Bloemfontein. Their visit started at Iphahamiseng Child and Youth Care Centre, where they dropped off a blanket, beanie and scarf for the 50 young children living there.

Carolyn Steyn explained to Bloemfontein Courant that throughout the years people from all walks of life, including prisoners and school goers, pour care and compassion into their knitting, stitching the country together one stitch at a time. 67 Blankets has grown into an international movement with KnitWits in many countries donating blankets in the name of Madiba. She further said that there are still many big projects in the pipeline for this year, as well as, next year and people from across the country are welcome to join.

The Bloemfontein ambassador, Lindiwe Mnguni, says that they have regular meetings and picnics in Bloemfontein as well as a very active WhatsApp group where they share knitting patterns. Any person who would like to join, can do so via their Facebook page: 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day (South Africa)
