On the 23rd of August the ‘Bloemfontein East District’ of SCOUTS South Africa is hosting a Fundraising Gala at1 8h00 at the Floreat Hall of the Bram Fischer Building in Bloemfontein. Chief Scout Sibusiso Vilane will be addressing the guests.
SCOUTS South Africa strives to empower children and contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full potential as individuals and responsible citizens nationwide. The Bloemfontein East District predominantly caters for boys and girls from impoverished areas who are looking for a place to have fun, develop new skills and be active and creative in a safe environment. Scouting is run by volunteers through a number of troops and also in partnership with churches and schools.
Central in our Scouting programme is a continuous transference of values such as honesty, loyalty, responsibility, respect; all aimed at governing individual behaviour and the development of strong leadership and vocational skills that will equip members to be of service to others and to their communities. “We believe that South Africa, and Mangaung in particular, needs Scouting now more than ever”, says event organiser Sechaba Tlhatlogi.
“In order to run the Scouting programme basic costs need to be covered. Seeing as most of the children in the East district come from homes where their parents struggle to make ends meet, the funds raised through the gala dinner will be used to implement the Scout programmes and to acquire the much needed training aids and equipment. Additionally we aim to promote and expand Scouting in the area. Scouting prepares our youth to become responsible citizens and leaders of tomorrow.”
Chief Scout Sibusiso Vilane is the first black African man to have summited all seven peaks of the world and to complete the 3 pole challenge (North, Everest and South Pole). He will be the keynote speaker of the evening. The master of ceremonies is Motsweding FM Presenter and former Scout Mr GoitseModimo Seleka and entertainment is provided by the Mangaung Marimba Band and Choir Pulse of Joy, who competed at the Clash of the Choirs.
The Gala also presents an opportunity to network and for former Scouts to rekindle their affiliation with SCOUTS South Africa and discover how their Movement has grown and developed. It also gives current members the opportunity to meet and converse with their Chief Scout.
