As part of the ANC’s provincial 102 Day Programme, Free State Provincial Treasury hosted an Internal Audit Risk Awareness at Thabo Mofutsanyane District in Eastern Free State. Provincial Treasury’s Senior Manager and Internal Auditor Risk management (NFMA Unit), Norman Sebaku says the purpose of the event is to educate and raise awareness about the negative impact of fraud and corruption.
“The aim is to talk about the element of fraud and corruption, within the public sector. Both the provincial government and municipalities and the private sector are part of this initiative. We need to bring fraud fighters together from both sectors, so that we can fight this thing because it is robbing us of service delivery,” he says.
During the Free State Legislature the department says these Fraud Awareness Sessions will be continuous within the district and are aimed at increasing alertness within the private and public sector. There is an International Fraud Awareness event annually in November and Sebaku says the initiative, started in 2012 has been very successful.
“As a result, the executive council, under the leadership of the Premier Magashule agreed and resolved to say there needs to be continuous awareness within the district,” he adds.
