A Free State primary school teacher has been awarded first position in the excellence in Special Needs and Inclusive Teaching category, at the 15th Annual National Teaching Awards held over the weekend at Gallagher Convention Centre in Gauteng.
Jennifer Harrison a Grade 1-7 teacher at Bedelia Primary School in Welkom says she is ecstatic that she walked away with great prizes including R50 000. She says this recognition gives her a lot of confidence in her field of work.
Seven educators from the province won during the awards ceremony, to which provincial MEC of Education Tate Makgoe asserted that Free State has the best teachers in the country.
North West saw seven of their best educators while Mr Llewellyn Aiken from Vooruitsig Primary School in the Northern Cape province came in at 3rd place in the excellence in Primary School Leadership category.
Each winner walked away with gadgets, double return airline tickets to any domestic destination and winners in the top eight categories got to drive away in a brand new car.
