FS Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Dept gets R589m budget

A total of R589 million has been tabled for the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. MEC Mathabo Leeto says sports play a big role in restoring moral values and forums will be created to co-ordinate the sports and culture programmes planned.

“We are going to establish Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation forums to ensure that they co-ordinate the establishment of choirs, encourage communities to form groups to exercise. Exercising does not require having proper gym facilities, you can exercise through play, we believe that there are some programme that can be implemented without money,” says Leeto.

In her budget speech she underlined programmes which include Cultural Affairs which will include implementing several performing arts services like Choral Music and Mangaung Strings programme.

Leeto tabled R223.66million for 2014/15 for the Library and Archives services. Some of the initiatives the department has plaaned is reviving the Spiritual Music Choirs in the province as well as the creation of the 21.1KM Provincial Marathon on October 4th 2014 as a build up to the Reconciliation Day Celebrations.
