The Free State Department of Social Development today celebrates Social Workers’ Day under the theme for 2024, ‘Shared Future for Transformative Change’.

According to a press statement by the department, World Social Workers’ Day is celebrated on the third Tuesday of March.

“It is a celebration that has become a highpoint in the social work calendar with social workers all over the world celebrating and promoting the contributions of the profession to individuals, families, communities and the wider society,” reads the statement.

The theme is inspired by the Buen Vivir philosophy that resonates with the core values of social work, explained the department.

“The department should embrace this principle and champion a future where communities and nature coexist in harmony, embrace a future where social workers initiate; and co-design and co-build peaceful communities critical to our shared sustainable futures through proactive community projects.”
