The Free State police are on a manhunt for the fifth alleged police killer in Phuthaditjhaba, Koos Mokoena, who was laid to rest this past weekend.

The provincial commissioner, Moeketsi Sempe, tells OFM News that Mokoena and a friend were brutally murdered recently after being accosted by the suspects at a friend’s house. He says the police have since arrested four suspects linked to the murder and the fifth suspect is still at large.

He adds that Mokoena’s car was recovered in the neighbouring country of Lesotho after the suspects robbed the police officer when they ambushed him. Sempe denounced and condemned the killing of a police officer in the province and says this is a concerning matter for them.

Sempe says while en-route to his residence after visiting his mother, Mokoena received a call from a friend. Upon arrival, he was accosted by people who were with the friend and he was robbed of his vehicle. He, together with the friend, were taken to a certain place in that area where they murdered them. Sempe says police killings have a huge impact on the safety of the community. The commissioner was joined by, among others, the MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, Sam Mashinini.
